Dongying is the city with the most concentrated petrochemicals production capacity in China – and is the core area of the high-end petrochemicals industry in Shandong province. The petrochemicals industry cluster there has been included in the list of demonstration clusters for the transformation and upgrading of the province's pillar industry clusters.
The city's crude oil processing capacity is 69.6 million metric tons per year, accounting for 7.6 percent of the national total and it has initially formed five segmented industry supply chains for ethylene, propylene, C4, PX and pure benzene.
