Established in December 1992, the Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone in Dongying city in East China's Shandong province, is a national-level development zone. In March 2010, it was approved by the State Council, China's Cabinet, to be upgraded to a national-level development zone. It is the first such zone in the Yellow River Delta region, with a jurisdictional area of 721 square kilometers.
Moreover, it has been successively recognized as a national high-tech industry standardization demonstration zone, a national circular economy standardization demonstration zone and a national intellectual property demonstration zone.
The zone focuses on developing leading industries – among them, the new materials, transportation equipment manufacturing, aerospace, offshore wind power, digital economy and biomedicines sectors. That's while accelerating the development of modern service industries, to build a modern industrial system with distinct characteristics and core competitiveness.
