That's because it's a pivotal coastal city in the urban agglomeration of the Shandong Peninsula and serves as a vital gateway connecting the Bohai Sea region and the Yellow River Basin.

When it comes to its fascinating history and culture, Dongying is renowned as the birthplace of Sun Tzu, the ancient military strategist. The city is also a melting pot of diverse influences – including the Yellow River culture, environmentalism, its maritime culture, Sun Tzu culture, Lyu opera culture and revolutionary culture.
In fact, Dongying has become known as a culturally advanced city, an international wetlands city, a national ecological garden city – and it was named the city with the greatest achievements in the ecosystem and environment in China in 2021, among other things.

Indeed, its economic structure was characterized by a robust performance across all sectors last year, with the added value of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries growing by 4.2 percent, 7.3 percent and 6.9 percent respectively.
Most notably, 11 companies from Dongying were listed among China's Top 500 Enterprises, while 15 were included in China's Top 500 Private Enterprises and 18 were in the Top 100 Private Enterprises in Shandong Province.
Overall, Dongying's comprehensive economic competitiveness ranks it 47th among China's top 100 cities.
