Print PrintA landmark infrastructure project to restore the Durdevica Tara Bridge in Montenegro, led by Shandong Hi-Speed Group, has been recognized as one of China's "Top 10 excellent people-to-people exchange cases of 2025". It symbolizes the deepened bilateral friendship through practical cooperation.
Built in 1937, the 366-meter highway concrete arch bridge was once Europe's largest of its kind. It has endured wartime damage and decades of wear, and the structure, locally revered as the "hero bridge", required restoration. In 2024, SHSG was entrusted with this key infrastructure project.
To preserve its original appearance to the greatest extent, the team balanced modern safety standards with maintaining its original character. Beyond technical expertise, the project emphasized local engagement by sourcing materials locally and hiring Montenegrin workers to boost the regional economy and facilitate skills transfer. This approach turned the project into a genuine people-to-people exchange, fostering mutual understanding.
This project shows how Shandong's expertise in engineering and standards contributes to high-level opening-up. Looking ahead, SHSG will continue building such "two-way bridges" of exchange, integrating global best practices while demonstrating Shandong's technical capabilities on the world stage.
