Located in eastern China's Shandong province, the city of Linyi boasts a rich history spanning over a period of 3,000 years. Once known as Langya and Yizhou in ancient times, the city derives its current name from the Linyi River, a testament to its deep connection with nature.

Throughout the ages, Linyi has been graced by the presence of renowned figures, including China's best-known calligrapher Wang Xizhi, who lived in the 4th century; Yan Zhenqing, a great calligrapher, renowned official of the Tang Dynasty (618-907); and Liu Hong, the inventor of the abacus.

But Linyi's true essence lies in the indomitable spirit of its people, epitomized by the "Yimeng Spirit." In a memorial hall commemorating the heroic mothers of Yimeng, the women who voluntarily cared for soldiers and their children in this mountainous part of Shandong province during the liberation struggles of the 1930s and 40s, an old wicker basket occupies a place of pride.

Its handles are smooth and shiny from years of use carrying supplies for soldiers. It is a symbol of the Yimeng Spirit, which is characterized by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people's struggle for a better life, combined with hard work, self-improvement, selflessness and dedication cultivated during the war. Since then, this same spirit has inspired generations and continues to shine through today, including in efforts to create a better life.

Today, Linyi is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and modern vibrancy. The underground caverns here, which are open for visiting, were formed 200 million years ago.

For those seeking a taste of rural charm, the Yinjiayu Garden Complex offers a haven of tranquility. Visitors can stroll through verdant fields, explore scenic spots, or immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of intangible cultural heritage.

Linyi beckons with its captivating blend of historical heritage, natural splendor, and culinary delights, inviting you to embark on an unforgettable journey of discovery.
