East China's Shandong province hosted a cultural tourism promotional event themed "Hometown of Confucius, Hospitable Shandong" in Hong Kong on May 31 to deepen cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong and attract more tourists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area.

The event, organized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Cultural and Tourism, was attended by more than 200 guests comprising esteemed government officials from Shandong and Hong Kong, media professionals, key representatives from local travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and members of various culture and art circles.

Shandong, a populous province along China's east coast, is a dynamic region known for its strong economy, rich culture, and vibrant tourism industry. With a population of more than 100 million, it is the third-largest economy within China.

Shandong's natural beauty is exemplified by Mount Tai and the majestic Yellow River, while its historical significance lies in it being the birthplace of Confucius. Known for its diverse attractions and warm hospitality, the province's tourism campaign is branded "Friendly Shandong".

According to Shandong officials, Hong Kong has always been an important source market for inbound tourism in Shandong, and the two sides have maintained close cultural and tourism exchanges.
