Liaocheng, also known as the Water City in Northern China, is home to many rivers and lakes, among which the most famous are Dongchang Lake and the Grand Canal.

The Dongchang Lake Scenic spot is located in the urban area of Liaocheng and has a total area of 20.6 square kilometers. The millennial Grand Canal passes through the scenic area.

The Grand Canal spans from south to north through Yanggu county, the downtown area, and Linqing county of Liaocheng, which played an important role in ensuring the city's economic prosperity and stability in ancient times.

The canal is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is both the oldest and longest man-made waterway in existence. It spans almost 3,200 kilometers from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south, crossing through eight provinces and municipalities along the way.
