Weifang rides the wind at intl kite festival

Print PrintThe 40th Weifang International Kite Festival kicked off on April 15 at the Binhai International Kite Flying Field in Shandong province's Weifang city, which is also known as the World Kite Capital.
Initiated in 1984, the annual event has become known around the world. The event has gathered kite-flying hobbyists and professionals as well as traditional kite craftsmen from around the world to show off their skills and promote kite culture.
One highlight of the event is the kite-flying competition, with 622 kite enthusiasts from 59 countries and regions testing their skills and engaging in activities to showcase the diversity of kite culture.
During the festival, spectators have the chance to witness some of the most resourceful and intricate kite designs from all over the globe.
Apart from kite flying, the festival also includes a range of other activities, including cultural performances, exhibitions, lantern fairs, concerts and food stalls serving local delicacies, providing a platform for opening-up and exchanges, as well as creating an international gala featuring traditional cultures and Chinese characteristics.
