As a major industrial province, Shandong has been insisting on taking high-quality development as its primary task, with a focus on promoting structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading, and accelerating the development of high-end, intelligent and green manufacturing, said local officials.

According to the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, this year Shandong will carry out a campaign to support the transformation and upgrading of 10,000 enterprises. There are about 10,000 technical transformation projects worth more than 5 million yuan ($724,500) each, and investment in technological transformation will increase by six percent.

While transforming and upgrading traditional industries, Shandong also focuses on accelerating the development of emerging industries and driving the province's manufacturing industry to become high-end.

Zhang Haibo, director of the Shandong Industry and Information Technology Department, said that Shandong will build three national advanced manufacturing clusters, namely smart home appliances, rail transit equipment and power equipment, cultivate the first six provincial-level advanced manufacturing clusters, and create 10 strategic emerging industrial clusters with a scale of 10 billion yuan.

The province has beefed up the construction and application of new infrastructure, deepened efforts to promote an innovation-driven development strategy, and advanced the integration of the digital and real economies.

It is promoting the construction of more industrial internet platforms to help local enterprises improve quality, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and promote green and safe development, which in turn will help upgrade traditional industrial technologies, and speed up the implementation and popularization of new production methods.
