The awards ceremony of the "My Story of Chinese Culture" International Short Video Competition was held in Jining, Shandong province, on Feb 22. The competition served as a platform to promote international exchanges and expand traditional Chinese culture.

Co-hosted by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and the Information Office of the Shandong Provincial People's Government and co-organized by the Jining government and Xufang International Media, the competition attracted more than 150 representatives from China and abroad and collected a total of 8,194 short videos from 40 countries and regions across the world, of which 40 were selected as award-winning works.

Gao Anming, deputy director and editor-in-chief of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, said the competition focused on such topics as traditional Chinese culture, intangible cultural heritages, urban cultural tourism and food and leisure, and gathered a group of outstanding narrators, creators and communicators on Chinese stories.

He said that the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration will carry out more in-depth cooperation with all parts of the country and all walks of life in the future and make the competition a more diverse and broader platform to enhance the influence of Chinese civilization.

Sun Yingzhuo, deputy director of the Information Office of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, said Shandong has profound Confucian culture, magnificent revolutionary culture, beautiful landscapes and simple and enthusiastic folk customs. The province has created a new benchmark for cultural innovations and persevered in strengthening its global communication and image.

Sun said taking the international dissemination of Chinese culture as a main breakthrough point, the competition collected works that are rich in content and diverse in genre.

Dong Bing, vice-mayor of Jining, said the city perfectly blends ancient civilization with a modern atmosphere. Jining has improved its cultural competitiveness and established friendly exchanges and cooperation with 27 cities in 19 countries around the world.

He said these works describe the development of local urban and rural areas from a third-party perspective, tell Chinese stories well in the form of short videos and spread the voice of China through foreign friends, effectively improving the international reputation of "Beautiful China" and opening up new horizons for Jining's integration into the country's foreign publicity.

The director of the Beijing Japanese Culture Center of the Japanese Foundation, said in his speech that the competition is of great significance in enhancing the understanding of the international community.
