"The next five years are a key period for Shandong to build a strong socialist modernization province in the new era and the province will continue to make contributions to advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts," said Zhou Naixiang, governor of Shandong, during an annual session of the Shandong Provincial People's Congress on Jan 13.

Zhou presented the goals and tasks for the following five years during the first session of the 14th Shandong Province People's Congress in Jinan, the provincial capital.

By 2027, the province's comprehensive strength is expected to jump significantly, and lead high-quality development, with per capita GDP reaching 110,000 yuan ($16,368). The added value of "Four New Economy" (new technology, new business pattern, new development mode, and new industry) is expected to account for over 40 percent of the total.

Shandong plans to accelerate efforts to build its self-reliance and strength in science and technology and make progress in industrialization, informatization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization.

It also plans to ensure that the people are leading better and happier lives by increasing the per capita disposable income to new heights, guaranteeing equitable access to basic public services, ensuring modern standards of living in rural areas, and steadily lowering carbon emissions to improve the environment.
