Liaocheng, situated at the juncture of Hebei, Shandong and Henan provinces, currently comprises a district, a county-level city, and six counties, with a total area of 8,715 square kilometers.

It is recognized by the State as a famous city with profound history and splendid culture. The Yellow River, mother of the Chinese nation, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal wind through this city and connect each other to nurture this age-old but modern city.

It presently boasts over 400 cultural relics, including three key heritage sites under state protection, and 15 provincial-level protected cultural relic units. Many stories described in the famous Chinese Classical Novels, Water Margin and Jin Ping Mei, are set in Liaocheng.
