Focusing on human rights development, experts from home and abroad offered suggestions for building a community with a shared future for mankind at an online meeting on Sept 29.

The online meeting was a side event of the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, with the theme of "Human rights development in the perspective of a global community of shared future", which was sponsored by the China Society for Human Rights Studies, and hosted by the Human Rights Research Center and School of Law of Shandong University.

"How to promote the development of human rights from the perspective of a community with a shared future for mankind has been a hot topic of common concern in theoretical and practical circles at home and abroad in recent years," said Zhou Changjun, director of the Human Rights Research Center and dean of the School of Law of Shandong University.

Since its establishment, the Human Rights Research Center of Shandong University has always been concerned with the frontier issues of human rights theory, Zhou said. With the theme of Marxist human rights theory and socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics, the center has held several high-end forums to promote research and academic exchanges on human rights in China.

"To safeguard the human rights and development rights of developing countries, connectivity among countries is very important," said Saikat Bhattacharya, an assistant professor from an Indian university.

Saikat noted that the people in all countries should strengthen the connections with each other, realize the sustainable development of ecology and strengthen the ecological governance of all countries through common cooperation.

"In the process of poverty reduction, China has not only ensured the human rights of the Chinese people, but also reflected China's wisdom and provided the world with Chinese solutions for reference," Saikat added.

Under the guidance of the new development philosophy, China's protection of development rights have entered a new stage, providing a new reference for global protection of the right to develop, said Liu Xuebin, associate professor at the Law School and Human Rights Research Center of Jilin University.

Ning Libiao, a professor at the Law School of Guizhou University, said the country should regard human rights protection as an ethical bottom line when promoting energy transformation, and actively fulfill the obligations of respecting, protecting and realizing human rights.

China's commitment to achieving the dual carbon goals and supporting the energy transition of other developing countries also fully reflects its responsibility as an influential country and has far-reaching significance for the promotion of global human rights protection, Ning said.

Li Juan, a lecturer at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, said the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind embodies the connotation of environmental human rights protection, the value appeal of environmental justice, and the concept of sustainable and inclusive development.

"China has made outstanding contributions to environmental and human rights protection in pursuing and building a community with a shared future for all mankind," Li said.

"The development of human rights is essential for all mankind," said Yu Xiangming, Party secretary of the School of Law of Shandong University.

According to Yu, the Human Rights Research Center and School of Law of Shandong University will continue to strengthen human rights research and exchanges, strive to build a world-class human rights discipline, and cultivate human rights legal talents in line with the needs of the times.
