The 25th Games of Shandong Province kicked off on the evening of Aug 25 at the Kuishan Sports Center in Rizhao, Shandong province.

At the opening ceremony, a large-scale cultural and sports performance was staged to showcase the vitality of Shandong athletes.

The event is comprised of 1,430 medal events across 32 major sports including soccer, basketball, sailing and windsurfing, and 996 smaller events for sports such as skateboarding and rock climbing. More than 17,000 athletes will take part in the competitions.

The event, which will close on Sept 5, will further promote the sustainable development of competitive sports in Shandong province, according to organizers.
