Shandong province has been revving up efforts to foster and expand new growth drivers to boost regional high-quality development, local media reported.

The province's added value of its "Four New Economy" (new technology, new business pattern, new development mode, and new industry) accounted for 31.7 percent of its GDP in 2021, an increase of 10 percentage points in four years.

The number of high-tech enterprises exceeded 20,000 last year, a sevenfold increase in four years.

It has cultivated 25 provincial strategic emerging industrial clusters, among which seven have been selected as national strategic industrial clusters.

Shandong has launched a slew of measures and supportive policies to boost its top 10 industries, which are new-generation information technology, high-end equipment, new energy and new materials, modern marine, healthcare, green chemicals, modern agriculture, cultural creativity, tourism and modern finance.

This year, a total of 119 key tasks have been implemented in Shandong, in a bid to replace old economic growth drivers with new ones and bring in high-quality investment.

In order to establish three to four national advanced manufacturing clusters, Shandong will cultivate an additional 38 industrial clusters and 63 leading enterprises in the following phase.

The province plans to formulate and implement an action plan for the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector, and establish national-level pilot and demonstration zones for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
