Shandong leads in many sci-tech innovation fields

Local officials announced at a recent news conference that Shandong leads the country in many scientific and technological innovation fields. 

The province is home to the world's first high-speed maglev transportation system, which features a top speed of 600 kilometers per hour.

China's first independently developed ski-waxing truck served as an important vehicle in providing waxing and storage solutions for athletes during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The truck was developed by enterprises and institutes in Shandong.

The successful trial of the first domestic underwater oil production system, which is independently developed by a company based in Dongying, has achieved an important leap forward in the localization of key core equipment for China's offshore oil and gas development.

Shandong leads the country in both industrialization and scientific and technological innovation across 20 different fields, including intelligent transportation, fine chemicals, and fuel cells, said Tang Bo, director of Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology.

Sci-tech innovation platforms represented by Shandong Institutes of Industrial Technology, Shandong Institute of Advanced Technology and Shandong Energy Institute are booming in the province.

A total of 31 innovation and entrepreneurship communities in Shandong have broken through 391 key technologies, formulated 86 international, national or industrial standards, and achieved an added value of more than 51.3 billion yuan ($7.65 billion).
