During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Shandong will ramp up efforts to build a 10 million-kilowatt nuclear power base on Jiaodong Peninsula, local authorities announced at a recent news conference.
The move is part of the province's efforts to advance green and low-carbon development.
On the premise of ensuring safety, Shandong will make all-out efforts to develop and construct nuclear power plant sites in Haiyang and Rongcheng, actively carry out preliminary work for the new sites, strengthen the protection, research and evaluation of reserve sites, and launch development and construction projects at appropriate times.
By 2025, the installed nuclear power capacity will reach 5.7 million kilowatts in Shandong.
Efforts will also be made to accelerate the development of renewable energy, promote the large-scale development of new types of energy storage, and advance energy saving, carbon reduction, and heat supply.
