Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, was awarded the title of National Civilized City in 2021 and the evaluation results ranked first among the country's 28 provincial capitals and sub-provincial cities.

The award is China's top honor for civilized urban development and only recognizes cities that have achieved balanced and well-rounded development. In addition to economic growth, it attaches great importance to moral values and social harmony.

It is the fourth time that the city won the honor. Jinan has achieved remarkable achievements in ecological civilization, the green economy, government services and urban living in recent years.

The city is home to numerous springs and weeping willows, leading to some rather distinctive scenery particular to the city. Using spring water to cook, wash and drink is the local way in Jinan, which is what makes the city of springs so special to visitors from home and abroad.

In addition, the city is continuously improving its urban management by using next-generation information and communication technology and promoting intelligent applications.

Jinan's civilized urban construction work has also been widely recognized and praised by cities across the country. Up to now, more than 110 cities have began to follow in the city's footsteps.
