Shandong speeds up infrastructure construction

Shandong will continue to promote infrastructure construction this year to support regional high-quality development, according to local officials.

The Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission said that it will implement 1,055 key projects in 2022, with a total investment of over 700 billion yuan ($109.97 billion).

By 2035, the province hopes to have a modern, high-quality, and comprehensive transportation network in place, as well as a world-class transportation infrastructure system.

This year, more than 270 billion yuan will be invested in the construction of a comprehensive transportation infrastructure system.

According to the construction plan, two high-speed railway projects will be completed in the province this year. The total length of high-speed railways in Shandong is expected to exceed 2,400 kilometers.

In the first two months of this year, infrastructure investment in Shandong grew by 10.5 percent year-on-year. Investment in road transport, railway transport and public facilities management increased by 16.2 percent, 83.5 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.

According to the modern water network action plan, Shandong will focus on optimizing the allocation of water resources, improving the flood control and disaster reduction system, strengthening the protection and management of river and lake ecosystems, and building a digital and intelligent modern water network. Over 50 billion yuan will be invested in the construction of water conservancy projects this year.

On top of that, about 57.5 billion yuan will be invested in improving public facilities this year.
