Shandong to step up major transport infrastructure construction

Shandong province will maintain the scale and intensity of its major transportation infrastructure construction in 2022 to buoy growth, local authorities said. 

Last year, the provincial comprehensive transportation infrastructure investment reached 265.5 billion yuan ($41.76 billion), a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent.

This year, Shandong will advance the construction of its transportation infrastructure with an annual investment plan that amounts to more than 270 billion yuan.

In 2021, Shandong promoted the construction of major high-speed railway projects and connected Heze to the high-speed rail network. The mileage of high-speed railway in the province exceeds 2,300 kilometers, ranking third in China.

Last year, Shandong continued to improve the highway network with the total length of expressways now stands at 7,477 kilometers, and 30 percent of the expressways have six or more lanes.

The province has made solid progress in developing world-class maritime ports. It is home to 358 berths for 10,000-ton or above cargo ships at coastal ports and 24 inland ports.

There are 10 transport airports and 14 general airports in the province.
