The Jining bureau of culture and tourism and the China National Tourist Office in Seoul, South Korea hosted a culture and tourism promotion activity for the eastern Chinese city in South Korea during the New Year holiday.

A series of photos depicting Jining's profound culture and rich tourism resources were displayed, inviting South Korean people to learn more about the ancient city.

Located in the southwestern part of Shandong province, Jining is regarded as a holy land of Chinese culture, for being the hometown of Confucius and Mencius, who are both well-known ancient Chinese philosophers.

The city has a number of cultural relic sites including the Confucian Mansion, Confucian Temple and the Cemetery of Confucian Family that were chosen by UNESCO as world cultural heritage sites in 1994.

In addition to experiencing Confucian culture, tourists in Jining can attend special cultural classes revolving around Chinese calligraphy, New Year’s wood block painting, tai chi, seal cutting and ancient Chinese etiquette.

Jining also boasts a profound "canal culture" as the 2,500-year Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the city.

Visitors can go on boat rides in the city to enjoy the beautiful scenery as guides introduce to them the cultural landmarks along the canal, such as the Dongda Temple, a nationally-protected mosque, and a wharf where the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) once boarded his ships.

Homestays featuring fishing culture and a wide range of fish dishes will also offer an immersive travel experience for tourists while strolling through Jining.

Li Bai, the legendary romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), lived in Jining for up to 23 years and created hundreds of poems during his time in the city. Taibai Tower, where the poet once lived, has also become a must-visit spot for tourists.
