The Battle at Lake Changjin-a film that commemorates a war fought seven decades ago, has continued to top China's box office since its opening on Sept 30. As of Oct 24, the movie has become the third-highest grossing film in China with box-office receipts totaling 5.3 billion yuan ($830.3 million).

Set during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), the film stars Wu Jing and Jackson Yee, and tells the story of the Chinese People's Volunteers army fighting bravely under freezing temperatures in a key campaign at Lake Changjin, or Chosin Reservoir.

According to the producers, the film's special effect scenes were created by over 80 companies from home and abroad. More than 100 special effects used in the film are made by a Jinan-based film company.

Jinan has great potential in developing its film industry, said Cao Jie, general-director of the company.

Jinan is home to a number of colleges and universities offering film-related majors that cover screenwriting, directing, and acting. Jinan is also a historical city which has ancient and modern buildings, making it a good place for filming.

In addition, Jinan has a convenient transportation system. Residents of the city can traveling to Beijing in just 90 minutes and reach Shanghai in three hours.

Jinan should seize these advantages to develop its post-production sector, said Cao.

Cao's company has participated in the making of several global blockbusters since 2011. These films include Hollywood productions like The Hunger Games, Spider-Man, Transformers, and Fast & Furious, as well as Chinese movies like The Wandering Earth, and Wolf Warriors II.
