Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, set a goal of hitting peak in carbon dioxide emission by 2025, according to the city's low carbon development work plan.

The city will push forward energy conservation and emissions reduction in key industries such as electricity, chemicals, and steelmaking. It will further optimize its energy structure, develop clean energy, improve the efficiency of energy utilization, and strive to achieve peak carbon emissions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

Jinan is promoting the development of the hydrogen energy industry and accelerating the upgrading of its industrial structure. It will build China's largest demonstration zone for green development to promote the construction of green buildings.

The city will also continue to promote green development in the energy, transportation, and agriculture industries and ensure good soil and water quality during this period. It is planning to add 1,700 new energy taxis this year.

In addition, the city will focus on improving the water environment and increasing the sustainable utilization of water resources. It will also speed up the construction of 17 sewage treatment facilities to promote the diversion of rain water and sewage in urban areas. The project is expected to be completed by 2025.
