New vegetable varieties, new achievements, new technologies and new ideas in the vegetable industry and related sectors from around the world are on display at the 22nd China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Sci-Tech Fair, which kicked off on Tuesday in Shouguang, a major vegetable production base in Shandong province.

Themed "Green, Science and Technology, Future", the fair has a main exhibition area of 450,000 square meters. More than 4,000 vegetable varieties from home and abroad are on display via online and offline channels.

New planting technologies featuring soilless cultivation are also being showcased.

The 2021 China (Shouguang) International Vegetable Seed Industry Expo kicked off on the same day to promote exchanges in the field of seed research and development.

In recent years, organizations and companies in Shouguang have developed 140 new vegetable varieties, the city government said.

The vegetable fair and seed expo will both run until May 30.
