The School of Computer Science at Qufu Normal University in Jining, East China's Shandong province was rated as the top 1 percent of institutions in the field across the world, according to the latest ranking released on March 25 by Essential Science Indicators (ESI).
The university's schools of engineering, math, and chemistry are also among the top 1 percent in the world, according to ESI.
Qufu Normal University has ramped up efforts to develop its computer science discipline. It built a research center for computer science in 2018, as well as enrolled more than 20 young doctors and a dozen professors, which constitute six research teams that have published over 300 articles.
ESI, an analytical tool that surveys more than 11,000 journals from around the world in 22 broad fields, is widely recognized as a significant indicator of academic influence and performance. An institution will rank in the top 1 percent in its field of research if the total number of citations for papers published by its researchers is in the top 1 percent in a rolling 10-year period.
