Jining in East China's Shandong province held a launch ceremony on March 3, announcing that a series of transportation projects will get started soon to improve the city's infrastructure.

The ceremony was held at the construction site of an overpass project, which just started at the end of February. A number of transportation projects in downtown Jining, including two new flyovers and a rebuild of one, is scheduled to begin soon after the ceremony, said government official Bian Wei.

A highway that connects several districts of Jining with high-speed railway stations is expected to open to traffic within this year, according to Bian. He also added that the rebuild of an overpass on Ji'anqiao Road will greatly ease traffic congestion so that residents can get around easily.

On Dec 31, a flyover running across central Jining was open to traffic, marking the beginning of a new era with the city bolstering its transportation system.
