Weifang agricultural output surpasses 100 billion yuan for first time

Print PrintThe total output value of Weifang's agricultural sector reached 103.8 billion yuan ($16.07 billion) in 2020, surpassing 100 billion yuan for the first time and accounting for about one tenth of Shandong province's total agricultural output, according to the Weifang agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
Weifang, an agricultural powerhouse of Shandong province, has seen steady growth in the sector throughout the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), according to local officials.
Over the past five years, the city's grain acreage has stabilized at more than 680,000 hectares, while grain output has stabilized at over 420,000 tons.
The city has become the largest vegetable production and distribution center in northern China, and the supply base for "vegetable basket" products in the Beijing-Tianjin region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In 2020, the city's vegetable output reached 12.51 million tons, up 2.6 percent year-on-year, and fruit output reached 1.7 million tons.
The city has formed clusters for agricultural specialties in a number of regions, including Shouguang vegetables, Changle watermelon, Changyi ginger, Anqiu green onion, Qingzhou silver melon, and Gaomi grapes.
Weifang is home to 922 agricultural processing enterprises above designated size, and in 2020, the value of the city's agricultural exports is expected to reach 10.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.9 percent.
