Ever wanted to learn how kelp is planted? Check this video to watch fishermen planting the brown seaweed in Rongcheng, a county-level city in Weihai, Shandong province.

Kelp, a winter crop that grows from fall to spring, is usually planted in November or December and harvested in May.

Rongcheng, which has the largest cultivation area and output of kelp in China, is also known as the "kelp capital" of the country. The city produces 80 percent of Shandong province's kelp and more than 40 percent of the country's total.
