The West Coast New Area in Qingdao, Shandong province, along with nine other places, has been selected to build a national demonstration zone for the promotion of imports.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, the 10 import demonstration zones will be established in Shanghai, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan and Shaanxi.

The zones will explore innovative regulatory systems, comprehensive service functions, and flexible trade models in order to steadily expand China's imports and optimize its import structure, said authorities.

A series of policies will be launched in the zones to promote the import of advanced technologies, equipment and services as well as products related to improving people's livelihood.
