This year's Golden Week holiday has demonstrated the province's strong rebound since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to accelerate local economic recovery, said local officials.

The annual public holiday has traditionally been a flourishing time for entertainment, travel, and spending. Official statistics show that governments at the provincial, municipal and county levels in Shandong issued 20 million yuan in vouchers via online platforms to stimulate consumption.

Red tourism, which refers to visits to prominent sites from during China's revolutionary period, proved popular among tourists, with the province's red tourism destinations seeing a huge influx in visitors during the holiday.

The province also introduced a series of tourist routes for driving tours, which were popular among travelers seeking greater privacy amid coronavirus concerns and wanting more relaxed travel schedules.

Rural tourism and the nighttime economy in the province also showed strong signs of recovery during the holiday.
