Shandong sees rebound in tourism during Golden Week holiday

Print PrintTourists made 62.32 million trips to East China's Shandong province during the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Oct 1 to 8, around 81.9 percent of last year's number, according to the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
Total tourism revenue during the Golden Week holiday reached 44.9 billion yuan ($6.71 billion), 71.5 percent of the 2019 figure.

This year's Golden Week holiday has demonstrated the province's strong rebound since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is expected to accelerate local economic recovery, said local officials.
The annual public holiday has traditionally been a flourishing time for entertainment, travel, and spending. Official statistics show that governments at the provincial, municipal and county levels in Shandong issued 20 million yuan in vouchers via online platforms to stimulate consumption.

The province's 16 cities launched more than 200 cultural and tourism activities during the holiday.
The province also organized a sales event highlighting more than 340,000 cultural and tourism products from over 11,358 companies.

Red tourism, which refers to visits to prominent sites from during China's revolutionary period, proved popular among tourists, with the province's red tourism destinations seeing a huge influx in visitors during the holiday.
The province also introduced a series of tourist routes for driving tours, which were popular among travelers seeking greater privacy amid coronavirus concerns and wanting more relaxed travel schedules.
Rural tourism and the nighttime economy in the province also showed strong signs of recovery during the holiday.
