Cambodia announced during a video conference on June 16 that it will establish its consulate general in Jinan, Shandong province.
It will be the first consulate general established in Jinan since the beginning of the reform and opening up period in 1978. Historically, a total of six countries have established consulates in Jinan, including Germany, Britain, Japan, and the United States.
According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consulate general of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Jinan will be responsible for managing relations between the two countries, issuing passports and visas, and protecting the legitimate rights of Cambodians.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership. The consulate general is expected to improve mutual relations and enhance cooperation and personnel exchange between Jinan and Cambodia.
Cambodia also plans to increase exports of Cambodian agricultural products such as bananas, mangos and cassava to China, while China plans to provide financial support for the construction of infrastructure projects in Cambodia, including roads, bridges, and irrigation.
