March 29 marked the 50th day that the sixth group of Shandong medical workers had been aiding Wuhan, Hubei province in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

They discharged their last COVID-19 patient, the 95-year-old Ms. Gu, on March 29 at the E1-7 section of the Guanggu branch of Tongji Hospital in Wuhan.

"Thank you for taking care of me for so long. You saved my life," said Gu.

The team consists of 131 people from the Second Hospital of Shandong University based in Jinan, capital of Shandong province. They arrived in Wuhan on Feb 9 and started treating critically ill patients at the Guanggu branch of Tongji Hospital the next day.

By March 29, the medical team had treated 94 patients in critical condition. Among them, 73 recovered and were discharged, while 16 were transferred to designated hospitals for more intensive treatment.

The team planned to return to Shandong on March 31.

"I always longed to return home, but couldn't bear to leave when so many people needed my help. It's been a memorable experience," said You Huifang, a member of the team.
