Shandong, South Korea seek closer ties

Print PrintA Shandong government delegation led by Liu Jiayi, Party chief of Shandong province, visited South Korea from Dec 1 to 4 to boost mutual cooperation.
The delegation visited companies and cities such as Busan, Gyeonggi-do province and Seoul, and met with political leaders and representatives from various sectors. Several activities were held to promote trade and cooperation.
During his stay, Liu met with many top politicians of the Republic of Korea (ROK), including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Sung Yun-mo, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Hyun-mee.

They agreed to further strengthen local exchange and cooperation between Shandong and the ROK.
Liu spoke at the Qingdao - Busan economic and trade cooperation meeting, which was held on Dec 1 in Busan.
Shandong is an important junction along the Belt and Road and a window to northeast Asia, said Liu.
He added that both sides should deepen trade cooperation, strengthen maritime and port cooperation, promote people-to-people exchange and push bilateral cooperation to a higher level.
This year marks the 10th anniversary since Shandong and Gyeonggi-do province established friendly relations. The Shandong delegation visited Gyeonggi-do on Dec 2 and signed a three-year action plan for friendly cooperation.
Gyeonggi-do Province Governor Lee Jae-myung expressed hope that both sides will further strengthen personnel and cultural exchange, carry out more practical cooperation and contribute to regional peace and stability.
Liu expressed hope that the two sides will build a new type of friendly provincial relations, continue to deepen and expand cooperation in the fields of science and technology, industry, oceans and education, promote people-to-people exchange and push forward bilateral cooperation.

The Shandong delegation also visited South Korean multinationals Samsung, CJ Corporation and SK Group.
A Shandong culture and tourism promotion activity was held on Dec 3 in Seoul, during which Shandong signed cultural exchange and cooperation agreements with South Korean cultural institutions.
