Jinan is speeding up development of its artificial intelligence (AI) sector and is expected to become an artificial intelligence innovation and application demonstration city in the near future, said Party Secretary Wang Zhonglin at a symposium on April 4.

In recent years, Jinan has prioritized the development of AI and drafted a set of guiding ideas to promote the core technologies.

The city boasts potential advantages in developing AI with a batch of core technologies relating to chips, identification and sensing, as well as several high-end products in the fields of intelligent robotics, manufacturing, medical treatment and transportation.

The city has also cultivated a batch of innovation service platforms to provide strong support for basic research, collaborative innovation and achievement transformation in the AI industry.

To date, Jinan boasts complete artificial intelligence industry chains, including more than 100 companies above the scale. Its industrial output of the artificial intelligence industry reached 60 billion yuan ($8.9 billion). 

According to the symposium, Jinan will progress its AI industry by formulating a high-quality development plan, building state-of-the-art innovation platforms, cultivating high-end talents and creating a strong innovative environment.
