The national opera Yimeng Mountain was staged at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on March 14 as part of this year's presentation of national excellent stage art repertoires organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

A news conference was held ahead of the performance by the Shandong provincial department of culture and tourism to detail the opera.

Zhang Guilin, an official from the department and also art director of the opera, said that the opera was jointly produced by the publicity department of the CPC Shandong provincial committee, Shandong provincial department of culture and tourism, Linyi municipal Party committee and the Linyi municipal people's government.

The Yimeng Mountain area boasts a glorious revolutionary history. Local residents offered tireless dedication to millions of Communist-led soldiers during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the following War of Liberation (1946-49).

The Yimeng Spirit of hard-working, self-improvement and selfless dedication has inspired generations of Chinese people, said Zhang.

The opera, produced over two years, aims to showcase the outstanding contributions and great sacrifices made by the Yimeng Mountain villagers in the Chinese revolution, Zhang added.

The opera premiered in Jinan last December and left a great impression on the audiences. It was staged in Fujian as a national folk opera performance on Jan 17 and was well appraised by experts and insiders.

The opera will tour across the country to promote Yimeng Spirit. A homonymic movie will also be launched.
