East China's Shandong province will allocate 10 million yuan ($1.46 million) every year to reward skilled workers, according to a document released by the province's Federation of Trade Unions at a recent press conference.

Labor contests will be carried out in major projects and industries across the province to facilitate the upgrading of industrial structures, regional development, scientific and technological progress and the construction of projects, the document said.

The organizing committee of the labor contests will host five to ten every year to reward the most innovative and creative workers, it noted.

By 2022, 10,000 innovation workshops for model workers and craftsmen will be launched; 30,000 innovation experts and 20,000 innovative teams will be nurtured; and 1 million technical innovations, inventions and creations as well as advanced operation methods will be promoted by the Federation of Trade Unions above the county-level in Shandong.

Those companies with a labor union will organize contests in safe production in the workplace.

The document also urges an improvement of the labor contest organizing committee at all levels and the provincial committee to host exchange activities and a summary conference annually.

The province will select two first prizes, eight second prizes and 30 third prizes among technical innovation projects, with the prize money ranging from 3,000 to 30,000 yuan.

A total of 100 innovation experts will be granted 5,000 yuan. Meanwhile, whoever takes the first and second prizes of the technical innovation award will also be presented a medal.

Each innovation workshop for model workers and craftsmen can receive 50,000 yuan in subsidies while the masters' workshop can obtain a fund of 300,000 yuan.

Rewards will also be granted to 100 individuals who are good at identifying potential dangers in the workplace.
