Shandong University (SDU) is to offer seven new majors that focus on new technologies to attract some of the country's most talented students.

The new majors on offer include cyberspace security, materials science and engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), data science and big data technology and intelligent manufacturing engineering.

China is accelerating its push to further integrate AI and big data with the real economy to foster high-quality development.

The majors of AI, big data and manufacturing engineering in SDU will focus on  cultivating leading talents in the AI industry to make breakthroughs in core AI technologies and further promote the integration of AI and the manufacturing sector.

In addition to attempting to attract some of the most talented students in the country, SDU has decided to offer these new majors to help promote new technology industries in the province.
