The marine industry has seen great strides in development in recent years. In 2017, the output value of major marine industries in Laishan was up to 19.81 billion yuan ($3.09 billion) of which the seashore tourism industry had total revenue of 5.5 billion yuan, up 13 percent year-on-year, modern marine fishery reached 3.88 billion yuan, up 9 percent and marine manufacturing industry increased 8.6 percent to 9.3 billion yuan.

Shndong Oriental Ocean Sci-tech Co is one such company based in Laishan, and focuses on marine ranch development. It is pushing forward with efforts to build a complete industrial chain integrating tourism, fishery, and logistics to accelerate the development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries in the area.

In addition, Laishan also is committed to develop the modern fishery industry with the aid of advanced technology..

Shandong Greatway marine Science and Technology Co is another company based in Laishan, and is utilizing advanced technology by developing a marine environment on-line monitoring system to progress the fishery process and to manage marine ranching in an efficient way.

It is hoped that with its advantageous geographical location and these moves by the local government, the city will establish itself as a major marine engineering hub.
