Yantai promotes fishery industry in Chongqing

Yantai in East China's Shandong province held a promotional conference in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality on Feb 22.

The conference, which was organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Yantai Municipal Committee and the Yantai Municipal Bureau of Marine Development and Fisheries, introduced the development trend of the city's modern fishery and new investment opportunities. It intends to enhance cooperation between Yantai and Chongqing.

Liang Yong, deputy mayor of Yantai, delivered a keynote speech at the conference. He said that Yantai has rich natural resources to develop the fishery industry. In recent years, the city has beefed up efforts to bolster the marine industry and accelerate the establishment of a modern fishery industrial system.

Liang added that currently, the city has set up 46 marine ranches above the provincial level with a total area of over 1.4 million mu (9.33 million hectares) and a complete development pattern for marine ranching.

Peng Heliang, deputy director of the Chongqing Commerce Commission, said that with a permanent population of 32 million, Chongqing has a large consumer market. He expressed his hope that the two cities can further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and explore new new models for production and sales.

Yantai is blessed with unique natural resources. Its seafood, such as sea cucumbers, abalone from Changdao Island, prawns and hairtail from the Bohai Bay, and crabs from Laizhou, enjoy a great reputation at home and abroad.

Over years of development, Yantai has witnessed a boom in the development of marine ranching, which currently has an output value of more than 55 billion yuan ($7.92 billion).

Thirty-one enterprises from Yantai attended the promotional conference, and they showcased the most distinctive aquatic products from Yantai, which were well received by consumers.
