Authorities in Yantai, a city located in East China's Shandong province, have in recent years been stepping up efforts to accelerate the renovation of historical and cultural blocks in the city.

The city recently completed the upgrading and renovation of its Chaoyang Street and Suochengli Historical and Cultural Block.

Liu Shulan, a local resident, said that the two areas have taken on a brand new look due to the local government's efforts to improve the environment in the areas.

Dubbed "the gate of Yantai ", Chaoyang Street has been home to consulates from 17 countries including Great Britain, France and the United States since the opening of the commercial port in the city in 1861.

Suochengli Historical and Cultural Block, which is best known as the root of Yantai, is one of China's well-preserved defense facilities that was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to fight against the Japanese aggression in China's coastal areas.

By February 2021, 69 buildings, including municipal level cultural relic protection buildings, historical buildings and immovable cultural relics, have been repaired.

Authorities have also been making efforts to cultivate new tourism formats and advance the integration of culture and tourism.

The renovated Chaoyang Street features red wine shops and will provide a platform for displaying and selling red wine products, according to an official from the city's bureau of culture and tourism.

The street has received 2.33 million visitors since it reopened in February 2021, generating a sales revenue of 20.42 million yuan ($2.85 million), according to official statistics.

Authorities have established green channels to handle complaints from tourists to improve the consumption environment of the two historical areas.
