"In the past five years, Shiheng Special Steel Group Co Ltd has invested a total of 5.17 billion yuan ($711.7 million), and implemented 63 environmental governance projects, which has resulted in a 12 percent reduction in comprehensive energy consumption per unit of product and all major pollutant emissions meeting or surpassing national ultra-low emission standards," said Zhang Wei, chairman of Shiheng Special Steel Group, which is located in Shiheng town, Feicheng city in Tai'an.

Shiheng Special Steel is a large private steel conglomerate integrating coking, ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling, power generation, machinery manufacturing, and logistics, and excels in 27 out of 45 key economic and technical indicators, ranking in the top three nationally. Their sales of anchor steel account for 60 percent of the national market share, making them the most comprehensive steel enterprise in Shandong province for construction steel materials and a top domestic producer of high-quality steel products.

In terms of environmental protection, Shiheng Special Steel is at the forefront of the industry. In recent years, the company has consistently adhered to the concept of green and low-carbon development, and driven high-quality development through technological innovation. Efforts have also been made to promote low-carbon technologies in the steel industry, and optimized energy use and product structures.

In creating a green factory, the company has continuously invested in environmental facilities and technological upgrades. To recycle water resources, Shiheng Special Steel has constructed a sewage treatment plant with a daily processing capacity of 32,000 cubic meters, collecting and treating all production wastewater for comprehensive reuse, achieving near-zero wastewater discharge.

As one of the first national green factories, the company has invested over 3 billion yuan in installing more than 100 sets of flue gas treatment facilities including desulfurization, denitrification, and dust removal to achieve a 100 percent compliant and comprehensive utilization of solid waste.
