International students from Shandong First Medical University recently visited Daiyue district in Tai'an to experience the charm of Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 22 this year.
The students visited Dawenkou Site Museum, where they were awed by a variety of cultural relics, including stone axes and shovels, as well as bones, and learnt about the history of the Dawenkou Ancient Town along the Dawen River.
The students also visited Qianzhoujiayuan village and tried their hands at making scented sachets and zongzi, a traditional Chinese dish made of glutinous rice stuffed with various fillings served, which is customarily consumed during the festival.
An international student from Uganda who tried a zongzi said she was surprised at how delicious it is. She also said the event left her with a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
