Village in Tai'an boasts traditional pancake industry

Nanshanyin village, located in the southeast corner of Ningyang county, Tai'an, Shandong province, produces jianbing, a traditional dry, thin, paper-like pancake made of grains.

Nanshanyin village produces 15 tons of pancakes per day, thanks to the commitment of 80 percent of the population that works in the traditional pancake production industry.

The village has also established a one-stop traditional pancake production industry, which includes a fully automatic pancake machine, research and development, manufacturing, and sales, as well as pancake processing, packing, sales, and transportation.

According to the locals, any grain, such as wheat, corn, millet, sorghum, sweet potato, and purple yam, can be soaked overnight, steamed, and ground into batter to form the traditional pancake.
