Lashan Taoist music

Taoist music is considered to be Chinese folk music. It is played using Chinese ancient musical instruments such as bells and drums, and it is usually chanted by Taoist monks during religious rituals. Taoist music was added to the national list of intangible cultural heritages in 2008.

Lashan Taoist music originates from Lashan Mountain in Tai'an city, Shandong province. As a distinctive aspect of Taoist music, it is usually performed at weddings and funerals.

Lashan Taoist music also features percussion and wind sounds. The wind sounds are created using a wind pipe, a suona and a flute while percussion aspect of the music is carried out with the use of a drum and a copper plate.
