Tai'an, East China's Shandong province issued its first electronic retirement certificate on Nov 12.
E-retirement certificates in Tai'an have been put into operation since November. Retirees who have completed their retirement approval process after Sep 1 are able to apply for an electronic retirement certificate online, said local officials.
"We are able to show our e-retirement certificates to business staff via phone now, so there is no need to worry about its loss," said Zhang Xia, the first local citizen in Tai'an to get the e-retirement certificate.
A retirement certificate is mandatory for insured workers who have participated in the basic pension program and have reached the legal retirement age.
The retirement certificate is one of the most important supporting materials for eligible people when in leaving the country, receiving housing provident funds, as well as in the household registration process when moving to another city. It provides great convenience in those circumstances where someone has lost their ID card.
