Folk customs light up festivities in Shandong
Folk custom performances are as much a part of the Chinese Spring Festival as dumplings and the Spring Festival Gala. Scenic areas in East China's Shandong province have offered a wide range of folk custom activities during Spring Festival and Lantern Festival holidays, which have enriched people's lives and promoted traditional culture.
Jining city in Shandong launched a Spring Festival celebration, which introduced to visitors the special local folk customs that are carried out during the Chinese New Year holiday, such as offering sacrifices to the Kitchen God and the God of Wealth. A range of rare and creative tiger-themed collections were on display to welcome the Year of the Tiger.
Nishan Sacred Land in Qufu launched more than 10 distinctive folk custom activities during the Spring Festival holiday, including shadow puppet plays. Taierzhuang Ancient Town in Zaozhuang provided visitors with outstanding performances of Dashuhua, a five-century-old Chinese New Year custom involving an experienced blacksmith throwing molten iron into the air to create spectacular showers of sparks resembling a leafy tree canopy.
On top to that, the Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area, a major Yantai attraction, is hosting a large-scale lantern fair. The fair, which features traditional Chinese culture, is expected to last for 120 days until April 29, spanning the Chinese New Year Festival, Spring Festival, and Lantern Festival to bring a festive atmosphere to the city.
