East China's Shandong province witnessed a boom in ice and snow sports during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, which started on Jan 31 and lasted until Sunday, according to a provincial culture and tourism department press release.

Consumption related to winter sports has increased significantly this year due to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which opened on Feb 4 and will last until Feb 20, and ice and snow tourism is one key sector that's triggering robust growth.

Culture and tourism departments at all levels in Shandong have launched a wide range of ice and snow activities to promote the high-quality development of the province's winter tourism, and also encourage more people to take part in ice and snow sports.

The coastal city of Yantai in Shandong is known as the "snow nest" of China due to the large amounts of snowfall it receives every year. Blessed with exceptional seasonal advantages, the city is making every effort to offer high-quality winter ice and snow tourism activities and create a fascinating, energetic and mysterious cultural atmosphere for visitors from home and abroad to experience.

Shandong's Qingdao city has launched many snow-themed tours, which has attracted a large number of visitors during the Spring Festival holiday. The city's ice and snow stadiums were among the hot tourism destinations, and more and more people chose to spend their holidays doing snow- and ice-related activities as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics recently kicked off on Friday.

Activities consisting of intangible cultural heritage items and folk customs also dazzled visitors during the holiday in Shandong. Qufu city, the birthplace of Confucius, organized special icicle-viewing and folk customs activities for visitors to participate in.
