Shaanxi's intangible cultural heritage on display at expo
Northwest China's Shaanxi province showcased 11 intangible cultural heritage items during the sixth China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo, which was held from Oct 23 to 27 in Jinan, Shandong's provincial capital.
The heritage items on display included waist drum dancing, Huayin Laoqiang Opera, Fengxiang clay sculptures, Huaxian shadow puppetry and Chengcheng embroidery.
Shaanxi is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, and 14 dynasties built their capital there over more than 1,200 years. This distinguished history has left rich cultural relics behind.
Senior artists perform Huayin Laoqiang Opera during the sixth China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo. Huayin Laoqiang (Huayin ancient tune) is a genre developed from a folk story-telling art in Shaanxi, crafted at the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and early period of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
