Shandong rolls out measures to promote Confucian culture in 2015

As the birthplace of Confucius (in 551-479 BC), Shandong province has pushed forward a string of measures on Jan 14, to promote Confucian culture in 2015. Announced by the province's culture department, the new measures hope to carry forward the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation and build the core values of the socialist system.

The provincial government will construct a Confucian cultural development zone in Qufu, home of the great sage, carry out a story-telling program about traditional culture in various folk art forms, produce series of TV programs to publicize Confucian cultural and hold the 10th Shandong Art Festival.

Artistic Confucian Culture, a TV documentary series that hits the screen in 2015, will showcase the charm of the culture in different forms, such as music, dances, operas and acrobatics.

The provincial government will launch large numbers of folktales featuring Confucian culture, which will be performed by local residents and selected through Weibo or Wechat.

It will also promote the construction of the HQ of the Confucius Institute and facilitate the preservation of the Confucian cultural heritage in Qufu. A large number of activities will be hosted in order to forge a culture base, such as the Nishan Forum on World Civilizations, the World Confucian Conference, Qufu International Confucius Cultural Festival and Confucius-worship ceremony.

The province will publicize Confucian culture in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as overseas countries, by hosting 2015 Shandong Cultural Exchange Year in Thailand and the first Silk Road Cultural Week, as well as setting up a pavilion at the 2015 World Exposition in Milan.
