The Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ) recently issued 12 documents to bolster the shipping services industry for the first time.
The primary goal is to establish a strong shipping industry service ecosystem, highlighting a port-centric structure that includes essential services like crew support, ship management and ship trading. It aims to enhance the interconnectedness of shipping, trade and finance, ultimately boosting the overall competitiveness of shipping services.
Policy measures revolve around strengthening port hub functions, improving shipping services and nurturing shipping talent. Specific initiatives include supporting the development of the maritime transport industry, accelerating ship financing, and expanding the shipping insurance market.
Additionally, efforts are being made to boost the international ship supply, develop high-end shipping industries, and enhance sea-rail intermodal transportation.
Qingdao FTZ also advocates for the development of green and low-carbon ports, promoting transshipment and consolidation business, and increasing support for shipping talent. Measures like awarding up to 12 million yuan ($1.66 million) annually to key modern shipping sectors demonstrate the zone's commitment to driving innovation and growth.
